Marine Pollution Awareness and Action Program for the General Public

This curriculum is designed to raise awareness and empower members of the general public to understand marine pollution and take meaningful action to protect marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Marine pollution poses serious threats to oceans, coastal environments, and human well-being. Informed and engaged citizens play a crucial role in pollution prevention, early response, and community-driven environmental protection.

The curriculum combines accessible theoretical content with practical, hands-on activities, making complex environmental issues easy to understand and directly applicable to everyday life. Participants are introduced to the main types and sources of marine pollution, why marine pollution matters for ecosystems and society, and how individual and collective actions can help prevent pollution.

A strong focus is placed on practical actions and emergency response, helping participants understand how to act responsibly when encountering pollution incidents, such as shipwreck-related pollution or coastal contamination. Through hands-on training materials and interactive simulations, participants learn how to organize and carry out community-based actions, including planning, executing, and evaluating a beach clean-up event.

The curriculum also introduces participants to simple tools and best practices that support ecosystem and biodiversity protection, encouraging active participation through citizen science and community engagement. By the end of the program, participants gain both the knowledge and confidence to contribute positively to marine protection efforts in their local communities.
